About the Practice

Can five minutes really make a difference?

Five minutes won't replace a weekend retreat. But five faithful minutes, repeated daily for six months, can reshape the way you notice God in your ordinary life. This isn't about doing more — it's about showing up consistently. A brief, honest morning pause and an evening moment of reflection build something a once-a-week study session sometimes can't: a daily rhythm of awareness. The journal and app are designed to make those five minutes feel unhurried, even when your day is not.

Doesn't "Jesus in Five" sound like reducing faith to five minutes?

We understand the hesitation. A relationship with Jesus isn't something you fit into a time slot — it's something that shapes your entire day. Jesus in Five doesn't claim to contain that relationship in five minutes. It offers a doorway into it. Think of it the way you'd think about sitting down for coffee with someone you love. The coffee takes five minutes. The relationship it nurtures doesn't have a clock.

I've walked with God for years. Is this too simple for me?

It might feel that way on day one. By week three, most experienced believers discover that the simplicity is the point. Jesus in Five doesn't teach you theology you don't already know — it asks you to practice noticing what you already believe. The five daily prompts slow you down enough to see where God is actually moving in your Tuesday, not just your Sunday. If you lead a small group, teach a class, or serve every weekend, this might be the only five minutes in your day that are just between you and Him — no audience, no preparation, no lesson plan. Just your own honest handwriting.

I'm curious about Jesus but I'm not sure where I stand. Is this for me?

Yes — and you don't need to have anything figured out before you begin. There are no quizzes, no doctrinal statements to agree with, and no moment where you're asked to perform a faith you're still exploring. The five daily prompts simply invite you to read a short scripture passage, notice something good in your day, name something heavy you're carrying, consider one small generous act, and reflect on where you sensed something bigger than yourself. If you can do that honestly — even with uncertainty — you belong here.

What if I don't know the Bible very well?

You don't need to. Each week, the journal and app give you one short scripture passage to sit with — not to study, analyze, or memorize, but simply to read and let it speak. There's no assumed knowledge, no background reading, and no wrong answer. Many people start Jesus in Five with very little Bible familiarity and find that six months of sitting with one passage per week gives them a more personal connection to scripture than years of trying to read it cover to cover.

Will this feel preachy?

No. The journal never tells you what to believe or how to feel. It asks questions and gives you space to write your own answers. The tone throughout is warm and inviting, never corrective. There are no guilt-driven reminders, no performance metrics, and no voice telling you that you should be doing more. If you've been put off by spiritual resources that felt heavy-handed, this was designed with you in mind.

Does this replace Bible study or church?

No — and it's not meant to. Jesus in Five is a daily rhythm, not a replacement for community, deeper study, or Sunday worship. Many people use it alongside their existing practice. Others use it as a first step toward building one.

About the Journal

How long does the journal last?

Twenty-six weeks — six months. One complete journey. When you finish, you'll have a record of half a year of daily encounters with God. The system is designed to be repeated: when you reach Week 25 or 26, the companion app will remind you that a new journal is waiting.

What makes this different from other devotional journals?

Most devotional journals give you content to consume. Jesus in Five gives you a structure to inhabit. Five consistent questions that train your attention over time. The journal is also fully bilingual — available in English and Spanish.

Can I use this with my small group?

Yes. The companion app includes a feature called Circles, where a group can walk the same weekly scripture together. Leaders can see how the group is engaging — without reading anyone's private reflections — and share encouragement along the way. That said, Circles is a complement to your group, not a replacement. If half your group prefers using just the physical journal, that works perfectly too. The journal is the foundation. The app simply extends it for those who want more.

What are the physical specs?

A5 lay-flat format. QuillEase® 95gsm cream paper — no bleed-through. Smyth-sewn binding. Two satin ribbon bookmarks (gold and dark brown). Gold gilt edges on three sides. Matte black PU flexcover with gold foil stamping. 240 pages, 26 weeks.

Does the app use artificial intelligence?

The core experience — you, the Word, your handwriting — needs no technology. AI features are available in the River plan and are entirely optional. They exist to deepen reflection, not to replace it.
